10 million beneficiaries of Ehsaas Kafalat
PM Imran Khan has approved a plan to increase the number of beneficiaries of Ehsaas Kadhalat from 4.6 million to seven millions by 2022. The beneficiaries will receive a monthly cash stipend of Rs2,000 as well as better access to smartphones. During a visit to an Ehsaas Kafalat disbursement site in Islamabad, Dr. Sania Nishtar interacted with beneficiaries of Ehsaas Kafalat.
A biometric Ehsaas Digital Payment System will provide funding for Ehsaas Kafalat by 2020. It will also be supported by dedicated branches and biometric enabled ATMs. The program’s identity card will also include a QR code that can be read by an off-the-shelf scanner. Biometric verification will help expand the scope of Ehsaas Kafalat.
Once BISP receives a list of eligible applicants, it will conduct a BISP survey. This survey is carried out by trained volunteers who have been recruited by Ehsaas. The volunteers are mostly teachers. To conduct the survey, the program purchased 20,000 laptops and then distributed them to the target areas. The survey was also independently audited by an independent organization.
After reviewing the disbursement process, Imran Khan will visit the district of Sukkur in Sindh. There, he will review the biometric payments and interact with Kafalat beneficiary women. The government has also made it clear that only trusted private organisations will join the PM’s ration disbursement program. These private organisations will be required to sign privacy agreements before accessing the information of beneficiaries.
